The team at Country Short Course in Wangaratta

Great performances at Victorian Age Short Course Championships

The team returned outstanding performances at the Victorian Age Short Course Swimming Championships, the final major event of the winter short course season. The team of 13 swimmers was led by Isabella Symons, who from 3 finals won silver in the girls 14 years 200m butterfly and bronze in the 100m backstroke. Jacob Waller, swimming in the 16 years boys division, swam 8 personal best times in qualifying for 7 finals, finishing 5th in four. Rebecca Holmes swam 7 PBs in finishing in the top 8 each of her 7 events in the girls 17-18 years competition, and Kate Jordan qualified for 4 finals in the girls 15 years competition, finishing 6th in her 100m breaststroke. Cameron Jordan finished 4th in the boys 11 years 200m breaststroke and 6th in the 100m breaststroke, and the rapidly improving Matthew Slot swam very well to qualify for 3 finals, finishing 5th in the boys 14 years 200m breaststroke, taking 7 seconds off his PB, and 9th in his 200m IM, with a 5 second PB. The team finished as the 5th highest placed country club in the points aggregate table, in 19th place overall.

Vicentre partnership

The Bendigo East Swimming Club is very proud to announce a joint venture with the Melbourne Vicentre club. As a result of this arrangement, swimmers will have opportunities to train with Vicentre squads in Melbourne on a regular basis. In July, National squad swimmers trained with the Vicentre Senior and Junior National Squads on a Friday evening and Saturday morning. The coaching staff have already developed ongoing relationships with their Vicentre coaching counterparts, and the benefits are already showing. Vicentre National Coach, Matt King, took a training session in Bendigo recently, giving more swimmers exposure to different training techniques and ideas. The improvements in the swimmers involved are already showing, with strong recent results. The Vicentre team will be sending a strong junior squad to Bendigo for our annual swim meet in November. The club looks forward to the further development and strengthening of the links with one of the strongest clubs in Australia.
