2015 Central Victoria District Champions

2015 District Champions - again!!

Five in a row!

Bendigo East Swimming Club dominated the pool at the Central Victorian District Swimming Championships on Sunday March 1. The swimmers achieved a clean sweep of the overall and individual champion awards against a number of other clubs from the region. The Bendigo East team were presented with the Allan Monaghan Shield for winning the women's aggregate points score and the Charles Turner Memorial Shield for the men's aggregate points score. The club also received the Frank Burgess Trophy for the overall team aggregate points score, which they have now retained for the fifth year in a row. The Individual Champion Awards were all won by Bendigo East swimmers, based on the number of points they gained throughout the meet. Emily Evans won the female 13-and-under award for claiming three gold and two silver medals. Mitchell Sherlock won the male 13-and-under trophy as one of the most outstanding swimmers of the day. Mitchell received gold medals in all of his eight events and swam new personal best times in seven of these, to cap an outstanding season where he has improved consistently. Kate Jordan won the female 14-and-over trophy, claiming six gold and three silver medals. Matthew Slot won the male 14-and-over award for winning four gold, five silver and one bronze medal. Matthew also received the Wally Stables Trophy in winning the 400m freestyle.

Bendigo East swimmers won 42 of the 78 events and claimed 117 medals overall. 47 of the 61 swimmers in the team took home medals, showing the overall strength of the team. Coach Tony Rodda was extremely pleased with the efforts of all swimmers. 'In what was a difficult day for swimming, all swimmers acquitted themselves very well with a number swimming at this level for the first time. To be achieving many personal best times under the conditions is a testament to the work the swimmers have put in over the season. It's a wonderful result for the club in what has been a long and at times difficult season. To be able to bring home all four Individual Awards, the Men's, Women's & Overall Shields, as well as the club breaking the most records on the day, is fantastic.'

Finishing the season in style at 2015 Country All Junior finals!

The club's junior swimmers were in the spotlight on March 21 and 22, competing at the 2015 Victorian Country All Junior competition. 46 swimmers had qualified to race at MSAC in the semifinals, several racing for the first time in Melbourne. The semi-finals were held on Saturday the with 16 swimmers making it through to the finals on Sunday. The finalists were Amy Jacobsen, Matthew Baxter, Somaiya Harriden, Ella Downing, Hayley Jacobsen, Harry Downing, Sophie Waller, Kaitlyn Morgan, Ella Wassing, Kiara Verbeek, Connor Symons, James Kealy, James Mittell, Sebastian Wood, Jarrod Slot, Ethan Waller, Zalli Lau, Thomas Hawke, Claudia Mountjoy, Halena Morgan, Liam Jacobsen, Imogen Wassing and Cameron Jordan.
Sunday saw some outstanding swims by the team, as the young guns claimed 10 medals in total. Sebastian Wood led the way, winning an outstanding three medals in total with silver in the 13 years boys butterfly, silver in backstroke and silver in freestyle. Matthew Baxter claimed two medals, silver in the 10 years boys butterfly and bronze in backstroke, Ella Downing silver in the 9 years girls butterfly, Kiara Verbeek silver in the 14 years girls breaststroke, James Kealy silver in the 11 years boys backstroke, Harry Downing bronze in the 12 years boys backstroke and Kaitlyn Morgan bronze in the 14 years girls breaststroke. The juniors will now have a well deserved break before training resumes in May for the winter short course season.
